Alison Roman (@alisoneroman) is the author of Dining In: Highly Cookable Recipes, one of the most successful, innovative, and delicious cookbooks of the past year. The former senior food editor at Bon Appetit, Alison dropped out of college to work in the restaurant world before some lucky biscuits provided her big break into editorial. Now, she’s working on a second cookbook, and developing recipes for Bon App, and the NYTimes.
Alison is one of those innately cool people, who just feels like she knows herself and what she likes. She wasn’t always this way though—in the episode, we talk about the body image issues she’s had to overcome as a food professional, and the steps she’s taken to learn to love herself. We also discuss the notion of success, and what having such a huge win actually does in terms of changing your life. We talk about how to make food taste delicious, her recent breakup, anxiety, CBD, the story behind her viral cookies, and so much more.
Be sure to check out my Instagram (@lizmoody) where I’ll be giving away a few copies of Alison’s gorgeous book.
Enjoy!
This podcast is brought to you by Four Sigmatic. I’m extremely picky about the food I consume, and after doing a huge amount of research on mushrooms, I’ve become not only a fan but an evangelist. I don’t drink caffeine, so I use mushrooms to help me wake up in the morning (cordyceps), focus in the afternoon (lion’s mane), and calm down in the evening (reishi). I also use the chaga to bolster my immune system on trips (either cross-country or just on the arguably-more-disgusting NYC subway). This stuff REALLY works, and now I rarely go a day without it.
