If there’s one thing I love about chilly weather, it’s the reason to make soup. These healthy fall soup recipes are, of course, the perfect meal prep recipe for lunch or dinner. However, my good friend and herbalist Organic Olivia was recently on the Healthier Together Podcast, and she told us her herbalist secrets for better periods, sustained energy, healthy hair, lessened anxiety and more. Her easy solution? Soup for breakfast.
What I love about this concept that’s rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is that it’s a warm and cozy version of my philosophy to green smoothies: packing in as much veggies as you can into your first meal of the day. Olivia dove deep into the benefits of eating breakfast rather than skipping meals, in order to rev up digestion and help balance blood sugar for the rest of the day, which in turn helps balance hormones. Plus, eating breakfast has been shown to support hormones and reduce the incidence of PMS.
In the episode, Olivia explains that, “according to TCM, starting the day with warm, cooked foods supports digestion and gut health as they help to expel the cold, dampness from the stomach”, which in Chinese medicine is the root cause of many health issues.
If you’re on the hunt for a healthy breakfast recipe to decrease bloating and cravings, try one of these recipes as a “breakfast soup” to rebuild your digestive fire and support gut and hormone health.
Don’t miss this episode about the gut-hormone connection!
I hope you love these healthy fall soup recipes, and tag me on Insta (@lizmoody) if you make them! I can’t wait to see your creations!
